Asan barrage is a barrage located it uttarakhand- himanchal border region at dakpatthar.Asan barrage is situated at the confluence of Easter Yamuna Canal and Asan River and about 11 km (7 mi) from Dakpathar, and 28 km. northwest of Dehradun.The barrage is 287.5m long and the river bed is raised to an elevated height of 389.4mts above sea level, with maximum and minimum water level at 403.3mts and 402.4mts.the power plant associated with it, is producing 30 MW power.
Asan barrage is mainly famous for its awesome location and bird watching. 53 species are known to make a habitat there, 19 species are migratory from Eurasia.thousands of tourists, photographers , nature lover visit this place round the year. here is a park named Green park which also attract tourists .
best time to visit- best time to visit Asan barrage for bird watching is may to end of september. this is the when you can see number of varieties of bird even of foreign country species. This is the best time to have sights to local migrants like painted stork, open billed stork, night heron. Here, flock of 25-40 painted storks can be seen in the months every year.
