History of Kedarnath Temple:
Kedarnath temple is an ancient temple built by Pandavas. according to old stories and history , when pandavas killed kaurava and their elder (GURUS) which were their relatives also, to absolve themselves of this sin undertook a pilgrimage to find lord Shiva . They approaches to Himalaya , they saw lord shiva from a long distance when they reach at that place Shiva got disappear because Pandavas did sin.the place where lord shiva hide himself from pandavas is guptkashi ,which is now a very popular temple dedicated to lord shiva . when pandavas reached to kedarnath in search of lord Shiva, Nakul and Sahadev found a buffalo which was unique in look as compare to other buffalo . Bheema approached to that unique buffalo but he was not able to catch him but Bheema managed to hit the buffalo with his mace. Bheema started to pull it by its tail. In this tug-of war, the face of the buffalo went straight to Nepal, leaving its hind part in Kedarnath . after that lord shiva appeared to pandavas and were absolved of their sins. The Lord told the Pandavas, “From now on, I will remain here as a triangular shaped JyotirLinga. By taking a Darshan of Kedarnath, devotees would attain piety”.
