The forest Research Institute dehradun is an institute of indian council of forestry research and education. F R I  is first indian forestry research institute located in dehradun district of uttarakhand state. It is oldest institute of the world of its kind.

history- F R I  was founded in 1878 by dietrich brandris . In 1906 it was reestablished as the imperial forest research institute under the british imperial  forestry services.The Indian Forest institute  was established in 1938, officers recruited to the Superior Forest Service by the states and provinces were trained there.

Forest research institute is Built over a lush green estate spread over 450 hectares. The main building of F R I is Greco roman and colonial style of architecture.

MUSEUM – F R I is also famous for its museums. museums are open from 9:00 am to 5:00pm daily for which 25 Rs per person is taken by institute. there are 6 museums as following

2. entomology museum
3. non wood forest products museum
4. timber museum
5. social forestry museum
6. silviculture museum
